Enter to start sign, fail!

The text in the green sign hanging above escalators in the 50th street C subway is very cryptic. So cryptic I want to ride this dirt train.

    but what does it mean???? seriously, that's a little strange

    I think it depends on if the escalator is going up or down:

    If up: "Enter [the escalater] to start [your ascent into chaos]"

    If down: "Enter [the C train] to start [your incredibly noisy ride on the oldest subway cars in the city]"
